 The CAT Exam Provision Answer Key was out on 1st December 2022 for the exam conducted on 27th November 2022. Candidates can raise the objection from 11 am 1st December 2022 till 5:00 pm on 04th December 2022.   • The common Admission Test or the CAT exam was conducted in 150 cities all across the country. 
  • The CAT exam is expected to be conducted in three slots i.e. morning, afternoon, and evening.

CAT Eligibility Criteria 2023

In order to complete the registration process, candidates must meet the minimum eligibility criteria stated by the conducting authority for CAT Exam 2023. Remember the application fees will not be refunded once paid. Have a look at the expected eligibility for the CAT exam 2023.

  • Applicants must hold a Bachelor's Degree, with a minimum of 50% marks or CGPA by any university.
  • 45% marks for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD category.
  • Applicants appearing for the final year of their bachelor’s degree or have completed their graduation degree requirements and are waiting for results are also eligible to apply for the CAT exam. (candidates have to show a certificate at the time of the selection process).
  • Those candidates who have completed a professional degree (CA/CS/ICWA) with a minimum of 50% or equivalent (45% for the Reserved category) are also eligible to apply.

Information Regarding SC/ ST/ PWD and EWS

  • Candidates belonging to SC or ST must provide a certificate to IIMs approved by the Government
  • Candidates of SC/ ST/ PWD and EWS must upload their category certificate at the time of the registration process, failing to do so can lead to the rejection of the application.
  • Reserved seats for candidates under SC/ ST/ OBC and EWS categories are 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, 27 % for OBC and 10% for EWS.

CAT 2023 Registration Process

Candidates who are not aware of how to fill out the CAT form can go through the step-by-step process carefully to begin the registration process for the CAT exam 2023. So, let’s begin. 

Step 1: Register Yourself

Step 1: Visit the official website of CAT
Step 2: Click on the Register button under the “New Candidate Registration”
Step 3: Here candidates have to enter their personal details such as name, date of birth, email ID, and Mobile number
Step 4: Now, click on the Generate OTP number
Step 5: This will redirect you to CAPTCHA, fill in the captcha
Step 6: In order to verify your mobile number, enter the OTP and click on “Validate the OTP”
Step 7: Now, submit the registration form
Step 8: After that, you will receive the User ID and password on your Email address or on the mobile number

Step 2: Log in to CAT Website

  • After the registration is successfully completed, log in to the CAT website.
  • Click on the login button under Registered Candidate login
  • Enter the User ID and Password
  • Click on the login button
  • This will redirect you to the Applicant Details page, from here you can begin to fill out the CAT application form

Step 3: Fill out the Application Form

There are multiple sections in the application form that are needed to be filled properly. Follow the steps to fill out the CAT application form. Click on the Save & Continue button after each section to save the details.

2: Upload the Documents

  • Passport size scanned photograph dimensions of 30mm X 45mm, resolution 150px/inch. The file format should be .jpg or .jpeg and the file size should not exceed 80KB. If candidates are finding difficulty editing or resizing their image or signature then they can use the Resize Tool.
  • Scanned copy of signature dimensions of 80mm X 35mm. The file format should be .jpg or .jpeg and the file size should not exceed 80KB.
  • For EWS/NC-OBC/SC/ST/PWD certificate, download the certificate and enter the information required and a scanned copy of the document.

3: Academic Qualification

Candidates are required to enter their educational qualifications of all the sections that are applicable to the candidates. The educational qualification certificate must be from the respective Board/University/Institution. Enter the aggregate percentage of marks secured in all levels of education.

In case any Institute/University awards a grade instead of a percentage then the candidate has to obtain the certificate for the conversion process.

4: Work Experience

If a candidate has work experience, then they must enter the experience in days. Check the industry type and then click on save & continue.

5: Programmes

Candidates can select all the programs by clicking on “Select All”. or selecting the Programme and Interview City for that Programme.

6: Test City

Candidates are given six options to select the cities as per their preference. One city cannot be selected twice.

7: Payment

The registration fees vary according to the categories of candidates. Payment will be made online either by BillDesk or PayU.

3: How to Calculate CAT Percentile?

There are a few easy steps to calculate the CAT Exam 2023 percentile score. The marking scheme for all the sections is the same. For every correct answer, 3 marks are allotted and for every wrong answer, 1 mark is deducted.

  • Calculate the total number of candidates who appeared for CAT (i.e. morning, afternoon and evening slots).
  • Assign a rank based on the scaled scores obtained in a section, to the number of candidates, who appeared for CAT
  • Calculate the percentile score of a candidate with rank in a particular section
  • Round off the percentile score of the candidate up to two decimal places.

4: What after the CAT Result 2023?

After the CAT Exam 2023 result is declared the IIMs will invite candidates for the selection process i.e. Written Ability Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview. Candidates who score the minimum cut-off set by IIMs for shortlisting will be required to apply on the official website of the IIMs.

3: How to Raise Objections Against CAT Answer Key 2-23?

The IIM allows candidates to raise an objection against the answer key. If the objection raised by the candidate is found to be correct then a reversed answer key will be released and the fees of Rs. 1,000 (expected) will be refunded. After the final answer key is released candidates are not allowed to raise any objection against that. Follow the steps given below to fill out the objection form.

CAT Eligibility Verification

If the candidate is shortlisted for Written Ability Test and Personal Interview by any of the IIMs institutes they have to fulfil the required eligibility verification. Have a look at the eligibility verification mentioned below. 

1: Marksheets & Degree Certificate

Shortlisted Applicants should provide all their original mark sheets and submit attested photocopies at the time of their interview. If the candidate is selected for any particular program, they have to submit the original mark sheets of all the years/ semesters of degree certificates with their attested copies at the time of joining the program.

2: Requirements for Reservation Category

Candidates of ST, SC, NC-OBC, and DA categories, if shortlisted, must show their original caste or Disability certificate and submit a copy of that certificate at the time of their interview. If selected for any program have to submit the original certificate of qualifying degree and the attested copy for verification.

3: Candidates Attending the Final Year of Graduation

Candidates who are appearing for their final year bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification examination must provide an original certificate from the Director/Principal/Registrar of the institution or university certifying that the candidate has obtained a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent (45% for SC, ST, and DA category) based on the latest marks at the time of interview. They must also submit an attested copy of the original certificate.

Candidates for Post Graduate Programmes of IIMs, if selected, they will be allowed to join the program provisionally only if they have submitted the certificate from the Principal of their college or institute clarifying that they have completed all the requirements including appearing for subsidiary exams (if any) for obtaining the bachelor’s degree on the date of issue of the certificate. Also, must have secured minimum 50% marks or equivalent grade and submit an attested copy of the graduation mark sheets and degree certificate.


  • The deadline to submit the mark sheets and certificate is December 31, 2023 (Tentative). 
  • Provisional admission can also be cancelled if found that the certificate is incorrect or has any kind of discrepancies. 
  • It is expected that IIM does not allow any Applicants to attend their programs if a candidate fails to complete the requirements for a bachelor’s degree on or before June 2023. After June 2023, IIMs would allow admissions to any of the candidates.

CAT Admission Process

Applicants must note that after clearing the CAT exam, IIMs will shortlist the candidates for further stages i.e. the admission process. The Admission process consists of a Written Ability Test, Group Discussion and a Personal Interview. The performance of the candidates in the CAT Exam 2023 is an important factor in the selection process. IIMs also take into consideration the previous academic records, work experience, and other components at the time of shortlisting and ranking the applicants at multiple stages of the admission process. The academic cut-offs, processes, and weights assigned to rate the parameters vary across the IIMs. Candidates can visit the respective websites of IIMs to know their admission policies.

Changes in CAT

There were 5 major changes that have been made in the CAT Exam 2022 and it is expected that CAT 2023 will be conducted with the same pattern as CAT 2022. Applicants can have a look at the changes stated below.

CAT Three Sessions

CAT 2022 exam was conducted on November 28, 2022, in three sessions. Previously there were two sessions. So, it is expected that this year too (CAT 2023) there is an additional session as per social distancing norms.

  • Morning Slot: 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM
  • Afternoon Session: 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM
  • Evening Session: 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM

CAT Exam Duration

The exam duration of the CAT 2022 was changed and decreased to 2 hours. The revised duration of the CAT exam 2022 was 120 minutes instead of 180 minutes. It is expected the exam duration for the CAT 2023 will be the same.

Section-Wise Time Limit 

It is expected that candidates will be given only 40 minutes in each section for answering questions. Previously the section timing was 60 minutes.

CAT Having Three Sections

It is expected that due to sectional timing, candidates are not allowed to switch to other sections. The sections are given below.

  • Section I: Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension 
  • Section II: Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning
  • Section III: Quantitative Ability

CAT Registration Trend Over the Years

There were more than 2.44 lakh candidates who registered for the CAT exam last year. The total registration number for CAT was more than 3000 candidates. This signifies that the candidates had to compete with more candidates in the CAT exam and must score high percentile to get shortlisted by the top three IIMs and other top MBA institutes. It is expected that for CAT 2023 the number will be more.

Though the CAT registrations trends since the year 2010 show a downfall then from 2013 the registration started raising and it regained the trust of candidates for CAT for a better career after completing their MBA program from IIM. have a look at a few points that reflects CAT registration over the years,

  • A Low-Cost Exam: CAT Registration and CAT exam application fee taken together comes to Rs.100 per IIM (General category) and Rs.50/- per IIM (Reserved category). 
  • One-Day Exam: CAT exam will be held on a single day in three slots. CAT is a (CBT) Computer Based Test. Previously it was held in a 15 to 20 days testing window till 2013 by IIMs. Since 2015, the CAT exam testing window has been shortened to one day only.
  • CAT 2023 Registration Window: The CAT 2023 registration process is soon to be released.
  • Dual Degree Accepted: A candidate with a dual bachelor's degree should mention the academic scores of both the bachelor's degree program in the CAT application form

CAT Exam Day Guidelines

Candidates who are appearing for the CAT 2023 exam must carry the documents listed below to the exam centre to get an entry inside the exam hall: 

  1. Admit card: Candidates must carry their CAT 2023 admit cards to the exam centre. Candidates without admit cards and photo IDs will not be allowed to sit in the exam. 
  2. Identity Proof: Along with the CAT admit card, candidates must carry a photo ID proof like College ID (supported with a valid debit/credit card), employer ID, driving license, passport, PAN card, Voter ID, or Aadhaar card.
  3. Name change document: In case a candidate's name is changed, they have to carry a name change certificate/document with them to the exam hall.

Items Not to Carry Inside the CAT exam hall:

  • Calculator, watch, phone, iPad, or any electronic item
  • Closed footwear 
  • Bags and purses
  • Jackets with pockets
  • Eatables items and beverages
  • Jewellery and accessories that contain metal

Note: Candidates with a pacemaker or a metal implant in their body have to provide a medical certificate at the test centre.
