What is UGC NET Exam?
The full form of UGC-NET is University Grants Commission -National Eligibility Test. The UGC NET Exam is conducted each by NTA to screen eligible candidates for the post of assistant professor and/or Junior Research Fellowship in Indian universities and colleges. After qualifying the examination, candidates can apply for the said posts in the institutions of their choice. New UGC Regulations for PhD Admissions
The University Grants Commission has notified the Regulations, 2022 on 7th November 2022. Following are some highlights of these regulations:
- These regulations will replace the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Awards of M.Phil. /Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2016
- As, per the new regulations, candidates with a 4 years Undergraduate degree (minimum CGPA of 7.5) can enroll for admission to PhD courses.

NTA UGC NET 2022 Exam: Major Changes
There have been some major changes in the UGC NET Exam being conducted for the merged cycles of December 2021 and June 2022. These changes have been listed below for the candidates to go through.
- There has been around a 10 per cent increase in the UGC NET application fee.
- UGC added a new subject 'Hindu Studies' (Subject code 102) to the list of subjects making a total of 82 subjects to choose from.
- The UGC NET 2022 exam will be held in 541 exam centre cities instead of 239 as the last time.
- The answer key challenge fee has been reduced to Rs.200 per challenge. Earlier, this amount was Rs.1000 per challenge.
UGC NET Notification 2022-23
The UGC NET notification 2022 (merged cycle Dec 2021 and June 2022) was released by the NTA on April 30, 2022, on the official website of UGC NET in the 'Information Bulletin' section. The final result and cut-off for the merged cycles of December 2021 and June 2022 was released on 5th November 2022. A total number of 544485 candidates appeared out of which 43246 candidates have qualified for the Assistant Professor while 8955 candidates have qualified for JRF & eligible for Assistant Professor. UGC NET Apply Online 2022-23
The candidates will have to apply for the NTA UGC NET Exam on the official website of NTA. The steps to be followed to apply online for the UGC NET Exam have been given below.

UGC NET Eligibility 2022-23
The candidates have to have a master’s degree with an aggregate of 50%. The candidates who appear for the JRF Exam should not be above the age of 31 years. The candidates applying for the assistant professor post have no upper age limit. Several age relaxations are offered to candidates which are given in the table below.

The UGC NET exam is a national level exam that is conducted twice in a year. Many students from all fields and categories attempt this exam. UGC NET applies a reservation policy in Universities and institutions at the central level as per the Government of India reservation policy. As per this reservation policy, candidates from different categories will be eligible for the following percent of reservation for seats at various Central Universities:

UGC NET Selection Process 2022-23
The UGC NET is a qualifying exam for candidates willing to apply for Assistant Professor and JRF posts in Government Universities and Institutes. The selection process for appointment of the NET qualified candidates to these posts will be as decided by the respective institution. However, to qualify the NET exam candidates must keep in mind the following:
- The candidates from general category should score 40% in aggregate (in both papers) and the candidates from other categories need to secure at least 35% in aggregate in order to qualify for the post of Assistant Professor & JRF
- 6% of the total candidates appeared will be qualified for the post of assistant professor.
- The number of candidates qualified or rejected is decided based on the formula developed by UGC which can be understood by the example given below-

The candidates should be aware of the important instructions which they need to follow on the day of the exam. The candidates can go through the guidelines mentioned below.
