The applicant must have completed Intermediate (12th class) from a recognized board of education. Preference will be given to candidates with either of the following qualifications/experience
- At least 2 years of experience in the Territorial Army
- NCC Core B or C Certificate.

The candidate must be a citizen of India, other candidates can also apply provided that he/she is either:
- a Tibetan refugee migrated to India before 1st January 1962.
- an Indian origin person migrated to India for permanent settlement from the United Republic of Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Pakistan, Burma, and Sri Lanka.
